Magpies transfer list goalkeeper

12:00am Thu 7th Feb 08

Maidenhead United’s charismatic goalkeeper,  Chico Ramos, has asked to be put on the transfer list after being dropped from the side.

The 24-year-old Portuguese is upset with Johnson Hippolyte, his manager, after he was dropped from the side following an error during the defeat to Basingstoke Town in January.

Ramos, who was voted as the fans’ player of the season last year, will  leave York Road should the club receive an offer for the player.

Hippolyte admits he doesn’t want players who don’t want to play for him.

“Chico came to me at training last week and asked if he could be put on the transfer list,” he said.
“He feels hard done by because he was left out last week.

“I have always said there is no point keeping players who don’t want to be at the club.

“When you’re going into battle you want people who are going to die for you and the club.

“So we will wait and see if we get a phone call and if we do he can leave and if not we will have another look.”

Hippolyte confirmed Ramos will be available for Saturday’s game, offers permitting, and he hopes his goalkeeper will remain focused.

He said: “For now I expect Chico to be professional and if we need him on the bench to look after us like we have looked after him.”

Serge Makofo joins Ramos on the transfer list but Hippolyte admits it is for very different reasons.

He added: “I’m hoping it will give Serge a kick up the backside. He is a quick as anything I have seen for years, but he just hasn’t produced the end product for us.

Hippolyte has so far refused to be drawn on a points total that would guarantee safety, preferring to focus on the next game.

He said: “A lot of people are talking about 40 points. But we are just going to keep trying to win the next game until someone tells me we are mathematically safe, then it’s happy days.”

Hippolyte also revealed he is in talks with a right-winger from the Conference Premier who could sign in time for Saturday
