Crackdown on sale of knives to underage teens

2:30pm Wed 27th Aug 08:: written by Lisa de Souza

An undercover operation aimed at catching retailers who sell knives to under-age teens has put Slough’s shopkeepers in the clear.

In the latest test purchasing exercise conducted by trading standards, trained teenage volunteers attempted to buy knives from ten Slough stores.

But in each case, the retailer refused to serve the teenager without seeing proof of their age.
When the same test purchase was carried out a year ago, about two or three shops sold knives to the teenagers.

Slough Borough Council said it was proof that Slough's retailers are getting the message.
