After the medal rush of the weekend our other Olympic competitors were bought down to earth with a string of qualifying disappointments.

Team GB's hockey team, which include former Maidenhead forward Matt Daly and Slough's Richard Mantell played probably their best match of the tournament when they held world No. 1 side Australia 3-3 in their final group match.

A 0-0 draw with Canada in their previous match meant that Great Britain needed to win the match 7-0 to qualify for the medal play-offs and they will now meet South Korea to be rated fifth in the tournament.

Windsor Slough Eton and Hounslow atheletics club's Marlon Devonish showed his years as he could only finish eighth in his 200 metre semi-final against much more youthful oppisition.

There was similar disappointment from Ascot-born 19-year-old Jenna Randall who failed to make it to the final of the synchronised swimming with partner Olivia Allison.
