There will be no medals for the Team GB women’s hockey team after they secured a hard earned 0-0 draw with USA but could only guarantee third position.

The team, which includes Slough hockey stars Alex Danson and team captain Kate Walsh, will now take part in the fifth-sixth place, but any outside chance of a medal have been dashed.

The top six finish shows a vast improvement for the team who last year were ranked 11th in the world and their Olympic performances have seen the team qualify for next year’s Champions Trophy tournament for the first time since 2003.

After the stalemate skipper Walsh was upbeat looking ahead to the classification match.

She said: “We want to go on to finish fifth in the competition and that is what we are going to do."
