Update 10.16am

Cycling

Rebecca Romero has taken gold in the women's indoor pursuit cycling moments ago after making the remarkable shift from rowing four years ago, to cycling in Beijing.

It was an all GB final and she went head to head with fellow British cyclist Wendy Houvenaghel in the Laoshan velodrome this morning.

Romero, formerly of Marlow rowing club, won silver in the women's quadruple scull in Athens as part of the Team GB rowing squad.
She switched to cycling just three years ago and has since taken silver at the World Cycling Championships in 2007 after becoming British Champion.

The 28-year-old is the first British woman to have won medals in two different Olympic sports.

Interviewed  after the race she described it as 'magical'.

To her mum, sister and aunt, watching her from home, she raised her fists triumphantly and said: "I did it!"

Hockey

The men's team, featuring former Maidenhead Hockey Club players Matt Daly battled to a 1-1 draw against Canada this morning in Beijing.

It leaves them with no chance of making the semi- final.

For Datchet resident Richard Mantell, defender, it was a disappointing way to celebrate his 27th birthday.
He said: "You do not get easy games in the Olympics."

GB will play their final pool match against Australia on Tuesday.
