Chinn anticipates good season as fixtures are revealed

8:01am Fri 15th Aug 08:: written by Steve Spencer

Slough Jets players and supporters will have Saturday, September 20 firmly in their heads as the new season nears.

On that day, Slough welcome Telford Tigers to the Hangar in the opening game of the 2008-09 English Premier Ice Hockey League season. The following day, Steve Moria’s side travel to Sheffield to take on the Scimitars.

Captain Nicky Chinn revealed that the squad cannot wait to get back on the ice and are eager to go one better than last year by winning the league.

“The play-offs is a nice one to win but the league shows consistency,” said Chinn. “As a team we are capable of winning one or two trophies a season.

“Winning something like we did last year gives you that extra edge which you can’t teach people.”

Chinn is pleased that Moria was able to retain key players from last year’s squad and believes there is a good understanding between them on the ice.

“It’s pretty much the same squad with a few additions,” he said. “It’s always good to keep a nucleus and we have a good understanding in the team.”

The visit of rivals Bracknell Bees to Slough will be an eagerly anticipated after they defeated the Jets in controversial circumstance in last year’s EPL Cup final.

However, the Jets did gain their revenge on the Bees by thrashing them 4-1 in the final of the EPL Play-offs to lift their first piece of silverware for nearly a decade.
