Chilterns League round-up: Taplow smiling

4:09pm Thu 14th Aug 08:: written by Nick Meakin

1st XI, Division 1

Taplow stole a march on their title rivals when they claimed 12 points from their abandoned match with third placed Winchmore Hill on Saturday.

Despite the rain, Taplow were able to smash 268-3 from 45 overs with Andy Mills (84 not out) and Sujith Perrera (69 not out).

Winchmore replied with 125-4 from 28 overs before the match was finally abandoned because of the wet weather.

With nearest rivals Wraysbury notching up just six points, Taplow now lead the table by 20 points.

They are at Denham on Saturday, and then end their campaign with encounters against Chalfont St Giles, Holyport and Penn & Tylers Green which could end with them lifting the trophy for the third consecutive year.

Braywood seem likely to end the season in mid-table after their match with Wraysbury was abandoned on Saturday. Braywood were 30-3 at the time.

The Fifield team are comfortably above the relegation zone in seventh place and are next in action on Saturday when they entertain Winchmore Hill.

Stragglers Holyport look favourites for the drop with just four matches remaining having won just once all season.

With two teams being relegated, Holyport are five points behind Englefield and 16 points from Denham.

On Saturday, Holyport recommence their fight to survive when they entertain Binfield.

1st XI, Division 2

There is little to play for but pride for local teams in Division 2 as Hawridge & Cholesbury and Great Kingshill seem to have the promotion race tied up and there is no relegation.

Wargrave and Littlewick Green will be eyeing up a third-place finish, while Little Marlow, White Waltham and Hurley will be hoping to find some form to end the season on a high.

The latter two play each other in White Waltham on Saturday with only the bragging rights to be gained.
