AFC Wimbledon boss Terry Brown is a worried man after his side slumped to their fourth pre-season defeat at the weekend as they went down 2-1 at home to Conference Premier Salisbury Town on Saturday.

He said: “The results have been disappointing and we have been letting in too many sloppy goals.

“We seem to have a problem defending set-pieces.

“I have been mixing them up at the back and not playing the strongest squad so I am hoping that will be something that sorts itself out.

“I know supporters want everything ready for the start of the season but we have a lot of players coming back and if we are set by the start of September I will be a happy man.”

- Ollie Berquez and Ricky Holmes found the net for Blue Square South outfit Chelmsford in the first half as Jeff King’s men recorded a 2-0 home victory against a full-strength Wycombe team on Monday.

The second half was a fairly drab affair and the only effort of note came from Blues’ sub John Mousinho, whose strike hit the angle of post and bar.

- Basingstoke Town legend Steve Richardson bowed out at the weekend when a crowd of 500 turned out to say farewell to a man who has played for, coached and managed the club over the past 13 years.

He took to the field in the first half in his testimonial game, against a Reading team that was in no mood to grant favours as they hit five without reply.

- British Gas Division One club Abingdon United’s midfielder Tom Hemmings has won a scholarship to play for Oklahoma Drovers in the United States.

The 19-year-old will spend four years at Oklahoma University - mixing football with studying for a degree in physical education.

Hemmings started as a youngster with Didcot Town and has also played for Drayton in the North Berks League.

- Henley Town of Hellenic One East have shown their ambition by appointing former Northern Ireland international Barry Hunter as first team coach.

Hunter cost Reading £400,000 from Wrexham in 1996 and spent five years at the Royals before joining Rushden & Diamonds, a club he later managed.
