First a survey - at a cost of £5000 - and then the roadworks.
That's the plan for a village where there have been pleas for urgent action amid fears of a serious accident.
The Royal Borough has announced its action plan for Old Windsor after almost 700 people signed a petition calling for action to relieve traffic problems in the village.
Over the last three years there have been 28 recorded crashes within the village resulting in 33 injuries, and complaints that on a bad day traffic can stack up for over a mile.
Highways, traffic and transport chief Colin Rayner, revealed that £5,000 has been earmarked in the current buget to carry out a survey of Straight Road.
In the financial year 2009/2010 another £30,000 has been earmarked to carry out any works identified by the survey.
However, cllr Malcolm Beer (Old Windsor Residents' and Ratepayers' Association) described the accident statistics as 'an alarm bell' that something needed to be done and quickly.
He said: "Our concern is that this is not being given the proper priority."
