A teenager from Slough has died after the stolen red Subaru he was driving crashed into a lamppost in Slough on Friday night.
The 18-year-old had been in a critical condition in Wexham Park Hospital after the crash in Long Furlong Lane at the junction with Wentworth Avenue.
He sadly died at about 7.30pm last night.
Police have apologised after issuing an initial statement on Saturday saying the driver had already passed away.
Supt Mick Doyle, head of roads policing for TVP, said: "It would appear that the information given to the reporter was passed in good faith, however, unfortunately the detail was inaccurate.
"We are currently carrying out inquiries to try to identify the source of this information in order to deal with the individual concerned.
"Meanwhile, officers from Thames Valley Police have visited the family in person to express our sincere apologies."
Police also confirmed today that the driver was 18 years old and not 19 as initially stated.
A 16-year-old passenger, who escaped with minor injuries, was arrested on suspicion of being carried in a stolen motor vehicle and released on police bail pending inquiries.
