Fruit feast for Oldfield Smoothie makers

6:02pm Wed 2nd Jul 08:: written by Justin Burns

Smooth operators were at Oldfield Primary School on Tuesday to help the students prepare for their own juice bar launch.

Staff from Altwood School arrived at the site in Chiltern Road to help show how to prepare smoothies.

They also staged blind-tasting so the children could decide on their favourite flavours and textures.
The Oldfield pupils then made their own fresh fruit drinks.

Staff at the school are using the project to encourage pupils to eat and drink healthily and give them an understanding of how to run a business.

Headteacher Richard Jarrett said: "It was a fantastic success. The children were given lots of advice and encouragement by staff from Altwood.
"Hopefully they now have the skills to run the smoothy bar successfully next term."

The school plans on having the juice bar in operation around September, with the youngsters running it themselves and providing refreshments during break times.
