Family flee burning house after arson attack

5:30pm Tue 24th Jun 08:: written by Lisa De Sousa

A terrified family of eight, including a three-month old baby were rescued from their beds after an arsonist set fire to their home in the dead of night.

At around 12.35am yesterday morning Slough fire crews rushed to Henry Road in Chalvey after receiving reports that a house was on fire.

The White Watch crew arrived within minutes to help eight family members, including a mother, her four young children, her two elderly parents and her sisiter in law, escape the burning building.

The 36-year-old mum of four, who did not wish to be named, said: “I was in bed and I heard a loud bang outside the house. I got up and saw a bright orange light outside the window. I could see the porch was on fire. I rushed to wake up the children and I called the fire brigade.
They were here before we managed to leave the house. They were brilliant."

The woman said that if she had not already been awake at the time the fire started she is not sure whether they would have all got out in time.

She added: “The police say the fire was started deliberately. I have no idea who could have done this. But we are all terried that someone is trying to kill us."

Police confirmed they are treating the incident as arson. Anyone with information should call Det Insp Steve Armstead on 08458 505505.
