Morning M4 tailbacks caused by van fire

10:12am Tue 17th Jun 08:: written by Claire Moulson

Tailbacks on the M4 this morning were caused when a van caught fire.

Maidenhead firefighters were called out at about 8.30am between junctions 8/9 and 7 and were forced to close off a lane in rush hour traffic.

A flat tyre on a woman's van created the blaze, which caused serious damage to the vehicle but no-one was injured.

Blue watch manager Miles Cooper said: "The woman got out of the van and stood behind the barrier which was the right thing to do and what we always recommend. Unfortunately the van was beyond salvage."
