Fuel crisis: Petrol pumps run dry

10:57am Mon 16th Jun 08:: written by Daniel Darlington

A planned walkout by oil tanker drivers led to petrol pumps running dry at the Shell Garage in Bourne End at the weekend.

Shell drivers started a four-day strike on Friday morning following a dispute over pay and hundreds of forecourts across the country have since run short of fuel.

A spokesman for Shell UK confirmed that the Marlow Road station in Bourne End ran out of normal diesel and unleaded petrol sometime on Friday afternoon but said that the pumps would be refilled tomorrow or Wednesday at the very latest.

The garage's shop kept its normal opening hours across the weekend and motorists have been able to fill up their tanks with V Power Diesel and V Power unleaded.

The strike is expected to continue until 6am tomorrow.
