Cashpoint scammers strike again

12:18pm Wed 4th Jun 08:: written by Daniel Darlington

Cashpoint scammers made an unwelcome return to Maidenhead this week.

The town centre was targeted by the scammers who once again zoned in on the High Street where a skimming device were fixed to the Nationwide bank's cashpoint.

Barclays Bank in Windsor's High Street was also fitted with a device on Friday, and there are a number of other suspected locations in Maidenhead which have been targeted.

A married couple had their Sunday spoiled when they were violently shoved by a criminal after discovering one of the skimming devices in Maidenhead.

The Maidenhead resident, who was walking with a crutch, and her husband, 65, discovered a card cloning device when they went to take out money from the Nationwide cashpoint.

They pulled it from the machine to see if their suspicions were correct, and were left shaken after a man ran up to them and grabbed the device out of their hands and pushed them. He and an accomplice then ran up the High Street. The 53-year-old woman was left with a bruised elbow from the shove.

Acting Superintendent for Windsor and Maidenhead, Jim Templer said: "It is the sort of crime that comes around in phases. I would urge people to be vigilant. They need to keep an eye on people who appear to be tampering with cash machines."

  • I have had my card cloned in the past week but I have not used any cash point so I don’t know where from. It is not just those at cash points that you have to be aware of. If you enter any premises and hand over your card to pay for transactions, you have to be wary of them.Trevor West

  • Am not surprised by the comments of the Police. When we tried to report a previous Scam in April the police were not interested and would not even give us a crime reference number as presumably it would spoil their crime figures. They should be keeping 'an eye on people who appear to be tampering with cash machines', that is what the CCTV cameras are supposed to be for. So why have they not printed the photos of the culprits in the paper ?.bingham
