Premier challenge for new Maidenhead Ladies

10:23am Thu 22nd May 08:: written by Kelly Rawlings

Newly formed Maidenhead United FC Ladies are showing their gutsy side by taking on a Premier League team in their debut match.

The team have secured a prestigious friendly against FA Womens' Premier League outfit Reading FC Women for the match in August.

This will be a stern test for Maidenhead United Ladies, as Reading FC Women have just won promotion to the FA Womens Premier League, the highest league in the English womens football pyramid.

"We are absolutely delighted to have secured this prestigious friendly against Reading FC Women," said Maidenhead United's chairman Una Loughrey. "We hope to attract a big crowd for this game on August 24, for what is a historic first ever game for Maidenhead United Ladies at York Road.

"We are hoping to secure promotion in our first season in the Southern Region League Division One, and this friendly against our high profile Berkshire neighbours is a fitting first game for Maidenhead United Ladies at York Road."

The game will be played at York Road, on Sunday, August 24 for a 2pm kick-off.
To mark the team's debut, entry to the match will be free for all.

Maidenhead United Ladies are on the lookout for new players for the first team and reserve side. Anyone interested should contact club secretary Lisa Starling on 07738 985159.
