Reading fans to show support for Coppell

3:04pm Tue 13th May 08:: written by Nick Meakin

Reading fans are planning a demonstration to show their support for their team's beleaguered manager, Steve Coppell.

Coppell is thought to be contemplating resigning as Reading boss after the club were relegated from the Premier League on Sunday but loyal fans are planning to show their support outside the Madejski Stadium this evening.

"People have been saying that he wants a break but a lot of fans think that he is the best manager we have ever had," said rally organiser and season ticket holder Alex Everson, 17.

"Steve Coppell changed things around for this club, he pushed us on to great things.

"It would be a step back if he left because we need to keep the continuity going. If Steve Coppell stays as manager and we keep the team together then we could go straight back up.

"We have posters and will be wearing T-shirts to show our support for him and hope he stays."

Coppell is still assessing his future after talks with director of football Nick Hammond and chairman John Madejski who has pledged to "do everything we can to keep him."
