Coppell's future unclear after Reading relegation

11:04am Mon 12th May 08:: written by Nick Meakin

Steve Coppell's Reading future is uncertain this morning after his side were relegated from the Premier League yesterday.

The Reading manager admitted that he will not make an immediate decision over his future but rumours are rife that Coppell will stand down after a meeting with Reading owner John Madejski today.

Reading beat Derby 4-0 at Pride Park yesterday but were cruelly relegated after Danny Murphy's late header against Portsmouth gave Fulham a 1-0 win and seal their safety.

Speaking after the game Coppell said: "Inevitably at the end of every season there are always changes and there will be here, mainly due to financial matters.

"But this isn't an occasion for thinking about me. We'll have a look forward some time this week I'm sure.
"I just want to congratulate my players for battling away all season."

The 52-year-old added: "I've been here for five years and the core of the team has stayed the same, they've done a lot for this club and they are feeling it in the pit of their stomach at the moment."
