Gauntlet is laid down for relay runners

11:00am Wed 7th May 08:: written by Kelly Rawlings

A company has laid down the gauntlet for this year's Carnival marathon relay by entering three teams.

Bosses at IT company, Repton Computer Products Ltd decided it would be a good team-building exercise for staff.

Staff will travel down from their base in Middlesex after operations director, who lives locally, saw the advert for the event and signed her company up.

She said: "We are not expecting to break any records, the teams will be spread out between beginner runners and more experienced runners who have already done road races.

"We would love to 'throw down the gauntlet' for any other teams in our industry to put some teams together, particularly amongst our suppliers."

Thousands of joggers are expected to line up on the start line for the inaugural race which will see teams of 10 people running 2.62 miles each to make up a full marathon distance.

It kicks off at 1.30pm in Kidwells Park, Maidenhead on Sunday, June 8, and runners will head along the High Street, past Waitrose and round the back of the Magnet Leisure Centre.

Sponsorship money will be split between The Link Foundation, which helps families from the Maidenhead area care for disadvantaged children, and a charity of your team's choice.
