Relegation countdown: Reading's future in the balance

1:58pm Mon 5th May 08:: written by Nick Meakin

Reading's Premier League future is precariously hanging in the balance after their home defeat to Tottenham on Saturday.

The 1-0 loss means that Steve Coppell's men remain in the bottom three with only one round of fixtures remaining.

Reading travel to already relegated Derby for the season's finale knowing that a defeat would send them down but a positive result and defeats for Birmingham and Fulham would save them.

A win would make Reading safe if Fulham fail to win when they play Portsmouth at Fratton Park, while Birmingham's take on in-form Blackburn at St. Andrews.

If Fulham were to win then only a 7-0 or 8-0 Reading victory would keep them up while the only way Coppell's side would remaining in the top flight with a defeat is if Fulham are get hammered by six goals at Pompey, and Birmingham also lose.

For daily updates on the build up to Reading's must win game at Derby keep checking the Advertiser's website.
