Edwards retires- this time for good!

10:42am Thu 1st May 08:: written by Graham Copas

Maidenhead RFC's acting head coach has confirmed that he will be stepping down...again.

Simon Edwards - chief executive, coach and head cryer for the club -  told the Advertiser that he would remain as a member of the club, but would be happy just to watch as Maids attempt to put their relegation woes behind them and bounce back at the first attempt.

He said: “I always wanted to retire but had to get involved again last season, but now is the right time. Whoever takes over should do well in South West 2.

"I believe the squad is generally a good one and is strong enough to do well, although I’m sure the new man will want to bring in a few players if he can."

The club are expected to announce a new chief executive and head coach at the annual general meeting in a couple of weeks.

For more on the club's new management and future signings see Thursday's Advertiser.
