Hospital parking could cost you £10

7:30am Thu 1st May 08:: written by Luke Cross

Pay and display has been agreed in principle for the community hospital in St Mark’s Road, subject to parking restrictions being introduced in nearby roads.

A report went before the Berkshire East PCT board on Friday recommending charges of £1 for up to two hours, £2 for up to four hours and £10 for more than four hours.
This is despite a 2,000-strong petition from businesses and residents and 400 forms backing the Advertiser’s Keep it Free campaign, which was also supported by Theresa May MP.

It is feared traders and neighbouring residents, as well as elderly visitors, will be worst hit by the move. Mrs May said: “I am outraged. It is yet another slap in the face for Maidenhead."

Royal Borough officers and the PCT are looking at simultaneously introducing charges at St Mark’s and parking restrictions wuch as short stay bays and double yellow lines at junctions. These are subject to consultation.

  • What is the justification for charging for car parking at St. Marks? This will effect the poorest in our community. Much of the money raised will go to the Parking Company not the PCT so we will be funding a private company for a service that no one in the community wants. The injustice is sickening. Our Councillors should be held to account for allowing it, if they do not have the power to prevent it then what use are they! Whinger
