Barbed wire 'trap'

3:46pm Mon 28th Apr 08:: written by Kelly Rawlings

A lethal barbed wire 'trap' was discovered across a path in the Dorney area prompting calls for walkers to be on the alert.

A man was cycling to work along the Oldway Lane footbridge over the M4 motorway towards Dorney on April 19. Just past the footbridge, he discovered barbed wire had been placed across the cycle path at neck height.

He removed the wire but when he returned the next day it had been put up again so he reported it to police.

PC Jason Davies, Neighbourhood Specialist Officer for Cippenham Green, said police will be stepping up patrols in the area and warned people to be extra careful when using the path.

“This wire appears to have been set up as some sort of trap. It’s an extremely dangerous thing to do and could cause serious injury or worse," said PC Davies.

Anyone with information should call PC Davies on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
