Both Maidenhead United and Maidenhead Rugby Club have given themselves a lifeline in their efforts to beat relegation with victories at the weekend.

The Magpies produced just their second win at home all season to shock well-placed Bishop's Stortford 5-0 with striker Manny williams grabbing two.

They now face struggling rivals Weston Super Mare in Somerset on Thursday in a match both teams will be desperate to win to keep them out of the bottom three of the Conference South.

In rugby's South West 1, Maidenhead RFC beat Old Patesians 26-20 in an exciting match in which all the points were scored in the first half.

Maids now need to beat Coney Hill on Saturday in Gloucestershire (kick-off
2.30pm) and hope that relegation rivals Reading lose their clash with high-flying Bracknell.
