Lead thieves target Cookham

Opportunist thieves have been targeting Cookham and stealing lead from prominent buildings in the village, the police have revealed.
So far the thefts have centred on Cookham village with the Stanley Spencer gallery in the High Street and the Odney Club in Odney Lane and a private house off Sutton Road all being targeted.
The latest theft took place on Saturday evening, when criminals finally succeeded in making off with lead roofing from the Odney Club after a number of failed attempts in previous weeks.
Local area beat bobby PC Val De Haan told the Advertiser: "The lead is being stolen as the price of lead and other metals has become very expensive in this country. People are now even being paid money to scrap their cars instead of paying as they used to.
"We advise anyone who has any leading to make sure that it properly bolted down and painted with special anti-climbing paint to make it more difficult to remove."
Anyone with any information about the thefts should call 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505 or the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
