School expulsions twice the national average

The number of children expelled from schools in the Royal Borough has doubled to almost twice the national average.
The latest figures were revealed at the Royal Borough's cabinet meeting last night.
While numbers for neighbouring authorities are not yet available, a council report said "informal information from colleagues suggests that similar rises are not being reported elsewhere."
The figures, based on the 2006/7 year, show that two in every 1,000 pupils are being permanently excluded, compared to just one in 2005/6.
This compared to just 0.8 in Buckinghamshire in 2005/6, although in Bracknell Forest the number was 1.9 per 1,000 children.
