Jack Johnson- Sleep Through the Static
12:00am Mon 18th Feb 08
Now on his fourth album, Sleep Through the Static, the Hawaiian surfer has developed his art to such a level that the listener is transported to a far off beach, with a crackling fire and a lapping tide...
OK that might be slightly hyperbolic but Johnson's music is very much akin to a sunset walk down a golden beach- tranquil.
He has an uncanny ability to create mesmeric melodies that flow like a waterfall through his albums.
His lyrics follow a similar trend and the two combine to create the easiest of easy listening music.
As an album, it peaks in the first half with All at Once, Sleep Through the Static and If I Had Eyes the standout tracks before tapering to a rather disappointing conclusion.
But for anyone wanting to evoke memories of long lost summers, buy this album, turn up the heating, close your eyes and prepare to be transported.
