Beauty and the Big Beastie -review

12:00am Mon 14th Jan 08

A talking moose, psycho puppy and pair of leopard print pants all make an appearance as well as a large amount of cleavage and a lot of tartan.

Set in a Scottish castle it shamelessly uses every cheap joke in the book and then some, positively piling on the sexual innuendo. It's how you imagine the Carry On crew would have looked when they were starting out.

Surprisingly there are some clever twists which give more dimension to what could become a cringewirthy farce.

The three actors also play their roles perfectly, throwing themselves whole hearted into the farcical comedy of the night but never over egging it.

Unfortunately a slightly sparse attendance did leave me feeling rather sorry for them at times as some of the jokes fell flat or were missed almost all together and the audience participation lacked a certain gusto.

But I see no reason why they can't pack the place out. It didn't hold me spell bound with song or dazzle me with scenery but I laughed out loud and left in a very jolly mood.
