With a 20 per cent drop in numbers since last year, the Bagot Goat has only 60 registered breeding nannies left in the world and is as close to extinction as the Black Rhino or Sumatran Orang-utan.
Despite being one of the oldest known registered breed of goats in the UK, dating back to the 1300's, the dwindling population now means it is classified as critical by the by the United Kingdom Breeds-At-Risk Register.
All this means staff at the Wooburn Common Farm are celebrating the arrival of six male and four female kids in recent weeks.
Livestock manager, Claire Middleton said: "Bagot Goats have a lower than average reproduction rate and we are delighted to be able to contribute so much this year.
"We work with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust to ensure a strong and healthy blood-line and to introduce our new arrivals into other suitable herds."
Odds Farm Park is a recognised Rare Breed Centre and open farm and has one of the largest breeding herds of Bagot Goats in the UK.
