Players turn on Royalists fans

Correspondence claiming to be from disgruntled Windsor & Eton FC players, which the Advertiser believe to be genuine, have roasted the club’s fans for their lack of support and understanding.

The club are currently in the process of paying overdue wages and bonuses worth £20,000, but according to the players, the Royalists have fallen behind in their agreed staged payments.

Two meetings this week at Stag Meadow were intended to thrash out the position, but there is still debate between players and the club as to exactly how much each player is owed.

Last week, the Advertiser appealed for players to come forward to air their concerns and verify their positions.

After this, a letter was received claiming that players have been threatened with non-payment of monies owed if they talked to the press.

Some players have now publically expressed frustration at this alleged gag order and the fans’ apparent lack of understanding

In a rant, reminiscent of Wayne Rooney’s outburst at the World Cup, one letter lays bare how the players feel about the Royalists fans.

It states: “We read your appeal last week. We also read the disappointing comments of the club supporters on the various websites and local press.

“We would love to have an open forum with the club management, the local press and the fans, but we simply can’t give you our names under the current threat.

“For the fans to say what they have been saying is poor. If they went to work and didn’t get paid, would they carry on for three months on a promise?

“If the fans aren’t interested in the running of the club or the truth that is fine.

“What their comments have done is made my mind up, and some of my teammates.

“We wanted to stay and have a go at the bigger league.

“Given their poor comments we will not be staying, and between seven and ten of us will go elsewhere.”

The letter continues: “The fans aren’t interested in us – that’s what they say.

“They couldn’t give a monkeys about us and slag us off about being anonymous without realising the truth.

“...now we must ask if it is right to play for fans, who don’t care about players who played without being paid and won the league, and who seem to not want to hear the truth...”
