Slough sign defensive midfielder

9:00am Fri 12th Mar 10:: written by Charles Watts

Slough Town boss Steve Bateman has signed one new player this week and is hopeful of capturing another by the weekend.

Defensive midfielder James Duncan has arrived from Margate and will go straight into contention for the weekend clash at Biggleswade.

And Bateman is hopeful of having another defender on board by then as he prepares his squad for what promises to be an exciting end to the season at the top of the table.

The Rebels boss said: “James is a lad I’ve been keeping tabs on for some time.

“He’s been playing at Margate this season but has been struggling with the travelling aspect of playing for them.

“He was very keen to come here and be involved in the final push of the season.

“He’s different to what we’ve got at the club, there’s no question about that.”

Bateman added: “I keep being told that I need a defensive midfielder but that’s not why I signed him.

“I’m not doing because other people are telling me to do it, I’m doing it because I’ve wanted James for some time.

“He’s got the right mentality to be at this club and that’s very important.”

Bateman is also deep is discussions with another long term target and he is hopeful of having a deal done in time for Saturday.

He said: “He’s another lad I’ve been talking to for quite a long period of time. He could possibly be with us by the weekend.

“I’m hoping, having tried on two or three occasions to get him already, that we will be successful this time.”
