Unstoppable Windsor march on

9:00am Thu 11th Mar 10:: written by Charles Watts

Windsor & Eton’s seemingly unstoppable march towards the Division 1 South & West title shows no sign of slowing down following two more wins this week.

The Royalists ran riot against play-off chasing Paulton Rovers on Saturday and then a last minute Michael Chennells strike earned them a 2-1 win against Gosport Borough at Stag Meadow on Tuesday night.

They sit 19 points clear at the top of the table and boss Keith Scott says only second placed AFC Totton now have a chance of catching them.

He said: “Paulton can’t catch us now, neither can the teams below them.

“The only team that can is Totton but what we’ve done by reaching 82 points already means they will have to put together one hell of a run.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the job is done because they are capable but it will be difficult for them.

“They have 15 games left and for me they need to win 13 of them.”

Windsor looked to be heading for a draw on Tuesday night as they were locked at 1-1 with Gosport going into injury time.

But as so often this season Michael Chennells was on hand to prod home from close range to seal yet another three points for the unbeaten league leaders.

They had gone in front on 39 minutes when Matt Seedel  headed his third goal in two games despite Gosport keeper Mark Brown thundering towards him.

But the visitors hit back after the break and levelled things up through Craig Davis’ spot kick after Andrew Fagan had fouled Michael Turvey.

This Saturday sees Windsor travel to another promotion hopeful in Bridgwater Town. Scott Thomas returns to the squad but Adam Dickens (ill) will again miss out.
