Meeting of minds to progress Slough Town FC stadium project

Key players involved in the massive redevelopment of Slough Town FC are due to come together next week to help move the lagging project forward.

The proposed 3,000 capacity stadium in Stoke Road will boast state-of-the-art synthetic pitches and indoor facilities and the site could provide about 80 new homes.

But progress is slow as Slough Borough Council, Paradigm Housing and the football club negotiate the finer points of the heads of agreement, a consensus document which sets out the major development plans.

Steve Easterbrook, chairman of the 120-year-old club, which has not had a ground it can call home for years, admitted in a club statement last month that progress was slow and 'very frustrating'.

"However, I can confirm that the council is committed to bringing the club back to Slough and are working hard to achieve that aim," he added.

He told the Express this week that the key parties were hoping to complete the heads of agreement next week.

A full planning application, which was originally hoped to be submitted by the end of 2009, will follow.

The council's cabinet approved the redevelopment of the former Arbour Vale school site in July last year. Arbour Vale School is now in Farnham Road.
