BOTH Maidenhead RFC and Maidenhead United will not quite believe the final scoreline at their respective matches this week and in particular the second half performances they produced.
Burnham Fc also conceded three after the break, but at least managed a point.
FOOTBALL
Maidenhead Utd (0) 0 – 5 (0) Eastleigh
A second half capitulation by the Magpies saw them blown away by their Hampshire visitors.
Against the same opponents last week, the Magpies threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2, but this time around there can be no dispute as to ‘what might have been’.
Reading (0) 2 – 0 (0) Man City
The Royals climbed out of the Premier League’s relegation zone after beating Manchester City thanks to second half goals from Shane Long and Dave Kitson.
Wycombe Wanderers (1) 2 – (0) 0 Darlington
The Chairboys gave their play-off hopes a boost with goals either side of the break from Leon Knight and Scott McGleish against third-placed Darlington.
Bridgwater (0) 3 – 3 (3) Burnham
In a wind-affected match goals from Jeff Brown, Ryan Byrd and Leon Yarnie gave the Blues a 3-0 advantage at the interval. But afterwards the hosts fought back and grabbed the equaliser on 90 minutes.
Marlow (0) 0 – 0 (0) Thatcham Town
Marlow made it four consecutive matches without a goal in their disappointing clash at home to Thatcham Town. They created chances, but could not finish them.
Flackwell Heath (1) 1 – 3 (2) Witney United
The Heathens free-fall down the Hellenic Premier Division continued with this two-goal setback at Wilks Park against fourth-placed Witney.
RUGBY
Maidenhead (7) 12 – 15 (12) Redingensians
Maids showed their lack of confidence and tactical nous to lose a ‘four-pointer’ in their latest battle to avoid relegation from South West 1.
An early try after the break brought the score to 12-12, and with the wind the hosts should have pushed on, but the surge failed to materialise and Redingensians came away narrow winners thanks to a 64th minute drop goal.
Tadley 11 – 42 Marlow
The bounce back continues for Marlow as they scrap to beat the drop from South West 2 East. A comfortable victory contemns the hosts to almost certain relegation while Marlow live to fight another game.
HOCKEY
Aylesbury 0 – 0 Maidenhead
In what captain Neel Sood described as a ‘real bore draw’, had had to settle for a point at already-relegated Aylesbury. However, two wins in their last two matches could see Maids finish fourth - a respectable placing after a tough season.
