Maids ready for Reds alert

12:00am Thu 6th Mar 08

ANDY Barron faces the toughest examination of his fledgling reign as Maidenhead’s coach ahead of Saturday’s must-win clash with Redingensians.
After watching his team slaughtered 64-5 at Bracknell, the Aussie has the taxing role of bolstering the squad’s confidence during training this week.
In the face of a crucial match, in front of an expectant Braywick crowd, but coming off the back of a wooping, Barron knows it is the mental obstacles which could prove the most difficult to overcome.
He said: “It’ll be tough this week after conceding 64 points.
“I’m not concerned about the ability of the players, but the mental approach needs some work.
“Obviously we haven’t got a lot of time to do this so Saturday’s match will be a test.
“But the players shouldn’t need motivating for it. It’s a big game and they should all have  a point to prove.”
He added: “It’s this group of players who will have to get us out of trouble. No-one’s coming to save us. It’s up to them.”
As an added spice to the match, as well as being a derby, Redingen- sians overturned Maids 38-5 earlier in the campaign and Barron is looking for some payback.
He said: “Redingensians will try to run us around the park like they did earlier in the season. They put a few points on us, so we have a score to settle.”
Saturday’s tussle is the first of four matches against the teams in and around the relegation zone - which effectively means four cup finals.

The match at Braywick kicks-off at 2.30pm.
