Berkshire sign seamer Johnson

12:00am Thu 21st Feb 08

Richard Johnson, the former England seamer, has signed for Berkshire County Cricket Club.

The 33-year-old former Middlesex and Somerset bowler has taken more than 500 first class wickets and has played in three tests for England.

David Morris, the county’s manager, admitted he was looking forward to seeing Johnson in action.

"Richard brings with him a vast amount of experience", he said.

“He and Tom Lambert will form a formidable opening attack and I look forward to seeing them bowl in tandem".

Berkshire are thrilled with the capture of Johnson especially after the losing out on Sean Udal, who had been expected to play, but instead accepted an offer from Middlesex.

Johnson will be joined by ex-Lincolnshire star, Jon Trower, and Staffordshire paceman Chris Guest.

Morris added: “Jon is a class act. He has scored many top order runs for his old county and is regular member of the Minor Counties Under 25 side.”
