Concern as vandals target Tesco-owned site

12:07pm Fri 14th Nov 08:: written by Gareth McPherson

A former pub bought by Tesco Express is becoming a target for vandals who smash and daub graffiti across the boarded-up building.

The prominent Red Squirrel Pub site is lying in disrepair in Burnham Lane, Burnham, and residents are worried that it is bringing down the area.

It led members from the Haymill Neighbourhood Action Group to take a look around the site to survey the damage yesterday.

Resident Martin Carter, who is also NAG chairman, said: "There are some dangerous elements and the site has not been secured away," he said.
"There are couple of holes in the car park floor. You could easily lose a child in one of those holes."

The Spur resident added: "The site is going downhill. Whatever is happening to the site we need to it to happen soon."

A Tesco Express spokesman said the site is being visited regularly by workers.
She added that it was starting the process of converting part of the building into a shop front after putting a planning application in with Slough Borough Council to change the frontage.
