Callous vandals cut phone lines

1:02pm Tue 29th Jan 08:: written by Gareth McPherson

Police are hunting a heartless vandal who cut wires to a health charity's helpline in Maidenhead leaving nurses out of touch with patients.

Heart UK is a charity dedicated to preventing premature deaths caused by high cholesterol and cardiovascular disease.
One their main services is to take calls from across the country from members of the public which sees a team of highly trained nurses and dieticians giving advice for heart problems.

But on Wednesday last week at around 5pm a man was seen by staff cutting the phone lines outside its offices in North Road, which affected a number of businesses in the area.
They were only reconnected on Friday after what appeared to be a random act of sabotage.

Cathy Ratcliffe, communications manager at Heart UK, said: "We can take some serious queries from people with heart conditions worrying about the side-effects of their treatment. People will ring up if they feel something is wrong so not having the lines open had some serious implications."

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said the police were looking for a man who is white with a dark complexion, aged 40 to 50 years, 5ft 6ins tall and medium build with greying hair.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 0845 8 505 505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
