Cannabis factory found after fire alert

9:17am Tue 29th Jan 08:: written by Gareth McPherson

A drugs factory was discovered in a small Cippenham house this morning after firefighters burst in to douse a fire.

A neighbour saw smoke billowing from the roof of the semi-detached house in Bath Road and rang the fire service just before 9.30am.
Police removed lighting and ventilation equipment was removed along with some cannabis plants.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "Upon entry to the property police discovered a number of cannabis plants which were seized. The property was vacant."

Neighbours said the house had been rented out since last year after the death of an elderly lady who lived there. A neighbour said: "This bit of road is full of families and older people. It's not the kind of thing you would expect right on our doorstep."

The investigation is ongoing.
