Council brings in shopper-friendly parking charge

7:13am Sat 30th Aug 08:: written by Kelly Rawlings

A new parking rate being introduced in September will slash the cost of parking for up to four hours by half.

From September 15 the council will introduce a £2 tarrif on parking for up to four hours in the Nicholson's Centre car park - half the current tarrif for parking for 3-4 hours.

The tarrifs for up to one hour, at 80p and 1-2 hours, at £1.60 and 4-5 hours at £6 and beyond, will remain the same.

The decision is in response to feedback from residents, town centre shoppers and traders.

The aim is to make it convenient and easy for shoppers in the town to browse at their leisure and stay longer in the town without feeling rushed.
