Reading Festival main stage
The Killers
Good times.
The Killers brought some much needed rock glamour and drama to the main stage, writes Laura Enfield.
The crowd had loved Bloc Party, who thrilled the crowd with a massive green laser show and crowd interaction.
But for me the theatrical style of The Killers was even better.
Looking like a sexy teddy boy, in shiny turquoise dress coat, the frontman owned the stage and his gradual striptease added to the build up.
The stage itself was decked in massive displays of flowers and twinkling fair lights and a large blinging K. And there was plenty of atmospheric purple and red lighting.
I had forgotten just how many good songs they have made. They banged out hit after hit including Somebody Told Me and Mr Brightside and everyone was singing along.
My friend Lucy thinks the base player looks like Brian May but I was getting more of swaggering Jim Morrison vibe.
Either way they had the arrogant stance needed to fill the stage.
A chant of ‘I got soul but I’m not a soldier’ rose up for the final song, which was accompanied by massive clouds of confetti bursting out across the audience.
I’m not sure they went down as well with the crowd as Bloc Party and the lack of encore made the end fall a little flat.
But I’ll definitely be giving their latest album another listen when I get home.
