Post office escapes closure

2:25pm Mon 18th Aug 08:: written by Daniel Darlington

A vital post office branch in Bourne End looks set to be saved from closure.

It had been widely expected the post office branch - inside Martin's Newsagents in the Parade - would be axed following a six week consultation by Post Office Ltd.

But community figures refused to surrender their town centre branch without a fight and they were elated to find out it had been removed from the dreaded blacklist.

Wycombe District Councillor, and Bourne End resident Simon Fowke said: "It is a victory for common sense and it makes logical sense in a vibrant village which is expanding."

National post office manager for Martin McColl Newsagents, Alan Brook, heard the news in a letter from the Post Office last week.
He said: "We are obviously delighted by the decision."

An official announcement from Post Office Ltd is expected at 10am tomorrow (Tuesday August 19).
