Passion and belief important for Magpies

4:32pm Mon 11th Aug 08:: written by Advertiser Sport

Matthew Foster, secretary of Maidenhead United FC Supporters Association, is confident that the club will be challenging for honours this season following their opening day win against Bromley.

He said: "Having ended last season so strongly, preserving our Conference South status in the process, I'm sure most Magpie fans are looking forward to a bright and positive season.

"Drax is clearly confident in his close-season signings and the balance of the squad, although the loss of top scorer Manny Williams is undoubtedly a blow. Replacing his goal tally will be vital.

"Bath and Braintree will prove to be tough opponents in the first three matches but we have the players to ensure a solid start and this will be vital in ensuring we're not battling at the wrong end of the table.

"Turning York Road into a difficult place for visitors to get points must also be a priority as this will undoubtedly bring extra fans through the turnstiles.

"In the FA Cup it would be wonderful to see a league side at York Road as most fans have never seen such an event and this would go some way towards alleviating the massive disappointment of our timid exit at
Horsham last season.

"Passion and belief will be important. Basically, so long as the players show the expected pride in the shirt then the results will surely come and the supporters will be happy."
