11:14am Fri 1st Aug 08:: written by Daniel Darlington

Paramedics rushed an injured cyclist to hospital early this morning after he crashed into a large lorry in the Bath Road, near Littlewick Green.

The rider, thought to be in his late 30s, collided with a blue Grundon lorry on the east bound carriageway at the Westacott roundabout at 7.26am.

A police team is currently investigating the scene where the mangled wreckage of the rider's black mountain bike lies beneath the lorry.

Police have shut the east bound Bath Road toward Maidenhead at the junction of Burchetts Green. It is not expected to open again for a few hours and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

The lorry driver, thought to be in his 50s, was not injured in the crash and is currently helping the police with their enquiries. Investigating officer PC John Denzel said: "We cannot speculate at this stage as to how the crash occurred but we are at present carrying out an investigation."

Witnesses to the incident are urged to contact senior investigating officer PS Keane on 0845 8 505 505.
