Maidenhead RFC coach Ricky Khan has confirmed that his new coaching staff is on board and that pre-season training is progressing according to plan.
On top of this he is actively talking to new players as he attempts to add to the strength and depth of the elite squad.
With 40 players at Tuesday night’s training session, Khan was delighted with the ways things are going, saying: “There is a real buzz around the place, I’m really pleased.
“We have been using a wrestling coach, Dave Jenkins, to work with the players about holds and turning the opposition. The guys seem to be enjoying it
“I can also confirm that the coaching staff for the elite squad will be me as head coach with assistant coaches Allan Greene, Craig Burgess and Jon Taylor.
“Burgess, who will also be playing, will be working alongside me with the backs and on skills, while former Marlow coach Taylor and Allan Greene will work with the forwards.”
Khan also confirmed that there may be news on new players, saying “I have been talking to a couple of players who are making up their minds. I should know soon.”
- Former Maidenhead RFC colt and now England star flanker James Haskell has set up an academy to pass on his knowledge, skills and love of rugby to those who want to follow in his footsteps.
The Young Guns Rugby Academy will take place at Maidenhead RFC, Braywick Road for four days from Monday, August 4, 9am-4.30pm, for boys aged between 11-17 and girls aged 11-13.
In addition to top class coaching being provided, the course will also focus on the importance of conditioning, nutrition and core stability.
Players will train in groups of 20-25, each group having a lead and support coach working alongside the specialist guest coach - and for one of the days Haskell will be directly involved in a hands-on basis.
The cost of the four-day course is £195 (or £45 for four days for those aged 7-10-years-old who will train between 4.30-6.15pm).
Go to www.youngguns.co.uk for information and to book places on the course.
