Council workers to strike

5:47pm Tue 15th Jul 08:: written by Sonia Kapur

A row over pay is due to spill out onto the streets tomorrow as teaching assistants, refuse collectors and social workers go on strike.

It is estimated that about 450 workers in the Royal Borough are members of trade union UNISON, and they could all walk out of work tomorrow and Thursday.

The two-day strike will see protesters picketing outside Maidenhead Town Hall in St Ives Road, and in a number of locations in Slough including the library in High Street and the Town Hall in Bath Road.

Although UNISON members have been offered a pay rise of 2.45 per cent, they say that this is not enough to survive with the rising cost of gas, petrol and electric.
