Elderly warned after men 'checking water' enter home

9:42am Fri 11th Jul 08:: written by Claire Moulson

Police have released another appeal for elderly residents to be on their guard after a distraction burglary in Maidenhead.

On Tuesday, July 8, some time between 7.30pm and 7.55pm, two men forced their way through the communal door at flats in Heywood Avenue, Woodlands Park.

They then entered the unlocked home of a woman in her 70s, and when she found them in her hallway they said they were checking the water. They searched the kitchen and made off.

The woman was left shaken but uninjured, and at this stage it is not yet known whether anything was stolen.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Both men are white, aged between 20 and 24, and medium height and build. They were wearing dark clothing and spoke with a local accent. One of the men has brown hair.

Call PC Mark Barnikel on 0845 8 505 505, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, with information.
