Card skimming device arrests

Two men have been arrested after allegedly removing a skimming device from a cash machine in Maidenhead town centre yesterday.

Police say one of their officers saw the men, aged 19 and 20 and believed to be from London, acting suspiciously outside Nationwide Building Society, High Street, at about 11.45am.

Shortly afterwards they were arrested on suspicion of going equipped to commit theft. They have since been released on police bail until July 20 pending further enquiries.

Police said they are 'keeping an open mind' as to whether this incident is linked to a similar one outside Nationwide on June 1, or the discovery of a skimming device at Barclays Bank in Windsor on May 30.

They said people should always check cash machines before using them and report any suspicious transactions to the bank.

Police also urged people who believe a cash machine has been tampered with to tell the bank immediately or call police on 08458 505505.
