CCTV calls to rein in intimidating gangs

10:37am Tue 13th May 08:: written by Gareth McPherson

Feelings of intimidation by gangs of teenagers is 'the worst it has ever been' say despairing villagers in Burnham.
They pleaded with parish councillors last night for CCTV to be installed in the area after a spike in aggression by swarms of intimidating groups in Burnham High Street.
Villagers also said that the area is becoming a no-go-zone as one resident reported seeing up to 80 'yobs' gathering at the bottom of the High Street last week to hurl abuse at passers-by.
Despairing landlord John Dixon, 53, of The George in Burnham High Street said after the meeting: “The last few weeks have been the worst I have ever seen.”
The clamour for CCTV by residents, who first asked for the system at least two years ago, led members of the parish council to insist that they are ‘not against it’ but would need to get a true idea of how much it would cost.
