Disgraced teacher's lies

12:15pm Thu 24th Apr 08:: written by editorial

A disgraced teacher has been suspended for three years after she repeatedly lied to a teaching council and her school.

Science teacher Sarah Jane Chambers, who taught at Burnham Grammar School from September 2004 to February 2006, lied about her age to the General Teaching Council (GTC) and made up information in her application to the Hogfair Lane school.
When she did not turn up for work she also provided an ‘untrue explanation’ for her absence.
However, an allegation that she lied about a child’s attendance three years ago was not proved at the hearing in Birmingham on Wednesday last week.

The GTC professional conduct committee ruled that Mrs Chambers should not be allowed to teach in maintained and non-maintained special schools for at least three years.

She did not turn up to the hearing and did not give any evidence in mitigation after she said that she had no intention of returning to teaching.
The suspended teacher has a right of appeal to the Queen’s Bench Division of the High Court.
